There is no “Linux” Platform : linux
You do not want an “app store” for a wholesome end-user software program ecosystem. Just a mechanism for downloading and putting in software program. Various Linux distributions have had that for over a decade now, longer than any of the proprietary platforms.
And in reality I’d argue centrally managed, non-free app retailer like those run by Apple, Google and Microsoft, are literally dangerous for a wholesome ecosystem, as a result of they stop natural evolution, clear competitors, unbiased overview, and precise free selection.
Anyway, for me, the takeaway is not “Linux needs an app store”, however “people (and lawmakers) need to be educated better about the things that have become essential parts of our daily lives”.
